Godmanchester Town, Newborough and Peterborough Town celebrate titles as Upwood hosts four age-group finals.
The Hunts Youth Outdoor League season ended with a memorable finals day at Upwood Cricket Club, featuring a remarkable comeback, a first-time champion and celebrations across four age groups.
Hosting the finals for a fifth consecutive year, Upwood welcomed the U15 and U11 teams in the morning, followed by the U13 final and U9 tournament in the afternoon.
Godmanchester retain U15 title
Godmanchester Town retained their U15 crown with a nine-wicket victory over Sawtry and Alconbury Weald. Alfie Sullivan took 3-10 as the opposition were dismissed for 57, before Zac Gravelling’s unbeaten 40 helped Godmanchester reach their target in just 8.5 overs.
First U11 title for Newborough
Newborough made their first appearance in an U11 final count, beating Godmanchester Town by 13 runs. Both sides lost seven wickets in the pairs format, with Newborough finishing on a net score of 259 against Godmanchester’s 246 to secure a landmark success.
U13 final delivers a remarkable finish
The U13 final provided the day’s most dramatic contest. Chasing Newborough’s 90, Godmanchester Town lost three wickets without scoring in the opening over, with Manjot Singh claiming a triple-wicket maiden.
They later slipped to 46-7, but Finlay Harrison’s 26 helped keep the chase alive. Oliver Radford and Jack Manley then saw Godmanchester home, with Manley striking the winning boundary with one ball remaining.
The two-wicket victory completed an unbeaten season and a five-trophy haul for Godmanchester’s U13s.
Peterborough take U9 honours
Peterborough Town emerged victorious from the three-team U9 finals tournament, overcoming fellow divisional winners Hemingford Park and Eaton Socon Eagles to claim the title.
Congratulations to all the finalists, and thank you to the families, coaches, managers, scorers and volunteers who supported the day. Special thanks go to Upwood Cricket Club for their hospitality, umpires Martyn Dobbs, Tony Edwards, Mark Webster and Will Sneath, and David Holmes and David Summers for conducting the presentations.
