Discipline
To ensure a consistent approach across Bedfordshire and Huntingdonshire, Cricket East strongly encourages all leagues and clubs to adopt either the General Conduct Regulations (GCR) or Recreational Conduct Regulations (RCR). By doing this it will ensure that you have support from Cricket East and Cricket Regulator should a discipline matter need escalating.
The purpose of the General Conduct Regulations is to establish clear and consistent standards of behaviour across recreational cricket. They provide a unified framework to ensure disciplinary matters are handled fairly, efficiently, and consistently. The regulations also support cricket organisations in developing and managing effective disciplinary processes.
Discipline Support
Cricket East has established a dedicated Discipline Group to support leagues in managing disciplinary matters. This group ensures a consistent, impartial approach, free from conflicts of interest. Leagues that opt into this system will follow the process shown in the flowcharts – which are available below in documents. The group will support and deal mainly with level 3 and 4 discipline cases.
Scope of the Regulations
While the GCR and RCR’s are primarily used to address on-field player behaviour, it also applies to:
- Off-field conduct, including social media activity
- The behaviour of officials
- Clubs and their members
- Spectators and supporters
A full copy of the regulations is available below. In addition, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) provide a reporting template (see below) for umpires and participants to document any breaches of discipline.
Reporting Discipline Matters
- For league competitions, all discipline matters should first be reported to the relevant League Discipline Officer.
- For issues outside league jurisdiction, please contact the Cricket East Discipline Team at: discipline@cricketeast.co.uk
Anti-Discrimination Regulations
The ECB Anti-Discrimination Regulations apply to everyone involved in cricket within Cricket East and must be adhered to at all times.
- As part of the ECB’s affiliation requirements, all cricket clubs are expected to:
- Formally adopt the Anti-Discrimination Regulations within their constitutions
- Publish them on their websites
- Share them with all club members
Cricket East has formally adopted the GCR at Board level.
