History was created on Saturday 2nd September as Peterborough City Council, Police and Fire Service XI won the Peterborough City Cup for the first time in their history beating the Peterborough Mosque Community by 9 wickets.
This annual event was this year held at Peterborough Regional College and the City Council, Police and Fire Service bossed the match from ball 1.
The Peterborough Mosque Community XI won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first. However, they were bowled out from the last ball of the 14th over for 61.
In reply, the Council, Police and Fire team raced to victory making 62-1 from 6 overs. This annual event raises money for Pancreatic Cancer and both teams agreed to carry on batting the full 14 overs with the Peterborough City Council, Police and Fire Service Team closing out on 124-5 from 14 overs. Batters retired at 25 or when their last scoring shot passed 25 and numerus players retired with some quick-fire scoring in the second innings.
The last two matches in 2021 and 2022 have raised over £1,000 on both occasions and it is hoped that a similar amount has been raised from this year’s match.
