Developing a Facilities Strategy aligned to our local geography of Bedfordshire
and Huntingdonshire allows us to make well researched and impactful decisions
that support the local game and the development of where we play the game
over the next 10 years and beyond.
We have undertaken a significant amount of work to engage with our clubs,
communities and other key stakeholders throughout this piece of work. This has
enabled us to gather valuable insight to guide our decision making. We have
achieved this through conducting surveys, club engagement events, meetings,
and data analysis.
Over the next 10 years, we now have clearly defined targets that will service the
future of the game locally across Bedfordshire and Huntingdonshire. This will
underpin our County Partnership Agreement with the England & Wales Cricket
Board, our current Countywide Strategic Plan to provide as much opportunity for
growth as possible and ensure everyone can say that cricket is ‘a game for me’
.
In line with our Countywide Strategic plan spanning until 2028, our immediate
priorities are to:
1.Support Traditional Clubs to develop their facilities to meet or exceed the “Good”
model, with accessibility for all as a priority. Clubs actively developing women &
girls’ cricket will be prioritised for investment opportunities.
2.Identify and develop key sites for Talent Pathway cricket in Huntingdonshire.
3.Develop facility partnerships with schools which provide the best possible
facilities for the school and community cricket in the local area.
Throughout the life cycle of this facilities strategy, we will continue to:
1.Establish a ‘Grounds Working Group’ to look in more depth at the challenges
facing clubs and volunteers.
2.Commit to the development of Local Cricket Trusts in Bedford, Luton, and
Peterborough – ensuring every Cricket Club or team have a place to call home.
3.Ensure clubs, teams and our Talent Pathway have access to Indoor Training
provision and playing surfaces which are fit for purpose.
4.Continue to tackle the effects of climate change and work with ECB and other key partners
