New Guidance
The ECB have spent some time reviewing the role of a scorer against the requirements of a DBS. While also taking into consideration the what the role includes and the legal definition of Regulated Activity. The ECB complete these reviews on all roles to ensure they are working within the legal requirements and not breaching any laws.
Following the ECB’s most recent review, they have concluded that the role of a scorer does not meet the legal requirements for an Enhanced DBS.
When an individual is contacted to complete their annual DBS check, they will need to complete a questionnaire via a link that is provided. They will be asked to select the most appropriate role from a drop-down menu. Depending on their answers, they will receive confirmation as to whether their DBS can be renewed for their remaining role/s in Cricket or their DBS can be lapsed in line with the changes.
If an Individual is not registered with the update service but wishes to continue on Cricket in another role that is in regulated activity, then a new application will be required.
Scorers will still be required to complete the online Safeguarding for Specialist Roles (SSR) eLearning training every three years and are encouraged to follow other Safeguarding best practice guidance, such as not being alone with a child, following the rule of two.
The rule of two is greatly encouraged when working with children, this is to not just Safeguard the children but also yourself. Please do encourage everyone to follow the rule of two.
