Queens Park Bedford Cricket Development Project Case Study 2021
2021 saw Cricket East commit supporting resources to this deprived Ward of the Town with lack of opportunity, Cricket Easts Clubs Manager Brad Matthews ran a Sky Dynamos Intro project over 3 mornings in the Summer Holidays with 16 youngsters attending this 8-11 years olds activity.
Dave Summers then helped local L2 Coach Abid Hussain in delivering 3 cricket sessions to 11+ teenagers along with supporting/mentoring 2 volunteers who would later in the year be offered free places on Foundation 1 Coaching Development courses in Peterborough to support the growing of the game in this Ward.
On 21st August Cricket East was part of a sports festival in partnership with local football, basketball coaches organised by local charity Faith in Queens Park Charity attended by over 60 youngsters who experienced the three sports during the course of the day. Beds Police officers attended along with the counties Police and Crime Commissioner Festus Akinbusoye who said: ‘What a brilliant community event and something Bedford should be super proud of for hosting as well, fantastic day. Well done to everyone working together to provide a brighter and safer future for our young people’.
Local coaches are currently delivering a weekly indoor girls session at Biddenham School.
We look forward to evolving more plans locally early in 2022, this includes youngsters taking part and benefiting from a Youth Empowerment Programme that Cricket East will be involved in supporting to use the game as a vehicle for good whilst at the same time considering role model, leadership and safeguarding issues.
