On Sunday 20 May 2018, Lord’s Taverners and Cricket East took 32 children to watch Leicestershire CCC vs Pakistan at Leicestershire's Fischer County Ground.
The purpose behind this trip was to get different nationalities and ethnicities together and give them the opportunity to watch a game of first-class cricket. There were Indian, Bangladeshi, Afghani and English children all excited together and keen to watch Pakistan play.
Luton Wicketz Development Officer Amran Malik said: "I believe such initiatives will result in more tolerant and inclusive generations that will look beyond ethnic, cultural or religious boundaries. Most of the children that attended had never been to watch a cricket match before; therefore, it was an awe-inspiring day for them.
"On arrival, we were greeted and welcomed by Wasim Khan M.B.E, Leicestershire CCC CEO, who was also kind enough to sit down with the children and take some pictures. The children were fortunate to see their Pakistani cricketing idols train hard and exhibit many fielding drills, see exhilarating bowling and to finish off the players came and signed autographs and took pictures as well. All in all, it was a fantastic day with plenty of sun and many smiles!"
"We are planning to do a similar trip for the Essex vs India match in July.”
